Step-by-Step Setup

Follow these instructions carefully. Always verify you are downloading from the official Lace website or the verified browser store page.

1. Install from the Official Source: Go to lace.io and click the browser-extension link, or search for "Lace" in the Chrome Web Store / Firefox Add-ons. Verify the developer is IOHK USA LLC before installing [citation:2][citation:1].
2. Create or Restore Your Wallet: After installation, the onboarding page opens. Choose "Create a new wallet" to generate a fresh seed phrase, or "Restore" if you already have a recovery phrase from another wallet [citation:3].
3. Secure Your Seed Phrase: Lace will display your 24-word recovery phrase. Write it down on paper and store it offline in a secure location. Never store it digitally, photograph it, or share it with anyone — this phrase is the only way to recover your wallet [citation:3].
4. Set a Strong Password: Create a password to encrypt your local wallet data. This password protects access to the extension on your device, but it cannot recover your funds if you lose your seed phrase [citation:3].

Hardware Wallet Setup (Quick Steps)

Ledger / Trezor: Connect your device via USB, unlock it, and open the Cardano app (for ADA) or the appropriate app for your asset. In Lace, choose "Connect Hardware Wallet" and follow the prompts to import your account. Your private keys never leave the device.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

If your hardware wallet is not recognized, try a different USB cable (data cable, not charge-only) or port. Ensure the correct app is open on the device (e.g., Cardano app for ADA). If you forget your password, you can reinstall the extension and restore using your seed phrase — the password is local, but the seed is the only true backup. For staking rewards, note that delegation rewards are distributed automatically every epoch (five days) after the initial 16–20 day delegation cycle [citation:5].
